Okay, we will get right to it now so you can start understanding the basics.
If you want to earn money from your blog then its purpose is to be able to generate leads. You can then sell these leads your e-books, videos, training courses, affiliate products etc.
This is the model used by online marketers whether they use blogs, web shops or other kinds of sites. With traditional sites people would normally have to go out and advertise for their site, either through radio, television or internet ads. With blogs the blog itself does a lot of that work for you. The whole idea of a blog is that it almost functions like a kind of online diary that you update often. This makes a blog interesting for search engines and for people who like feeling the personality who writes about subject matters they themselves find interesting.
A blog will help you to build a relationship with the visitors through its content and a relationship of trust will (hopefully!) grow between you and them.
The next step is to persuade your visitors to join your mailing list (we expand upon this later). When they receive mails from you they will be reminded about your presence on a regular basis and they will often come and visit the blog upon receiving an email from you.
Your blog should have relevant content on it. Write about things that mean something to you because then they most probably also mean something to others.
So if you want to make money from your blog your purpose is as follows:
1. Make the blog interesting and relevant. Grab the attention of your visitor.
2. Put links to products on your blog. The owners of the products give you a commission when somebody clicks on your link.
3. Make them give you their email address by offering something interesting to them. A guide such as this one, or an mp3 perhaps of an interview with yourself and a known person in the field, a list of 100 tips etc.
4. After some time depending on how much traffic you have coming to your site and how good you are at converting those visits to email addresses you will create an emailing list. Having a well targeted list of subscribers who like what you write is where the big money lies. You will regularly send emails to this list where you sell your own products or affiliate products.
